TELEGRAM from the Secretary of State for the Colonies
to the Governor of Hong Kong.
(Sent 12.10 p.m. 7th January, 1930)
Confidential.
Your telegram of 5th October.
Colonial Development Fund.
Assistance from
Aerodrome. Air Ministry
etate that Royal Air Force requirements for some years are
likely to be met by present aerodrome and hangar referred
to in my telegram of 30th September supplemented by such
temporary accommodation as may from time to time be
ne cessary.
Provision of extensive facilities on scale now
proposed would only be reasonable if there is prospect of
demand for them by civil aviation in near future. Reports
of projects for operation of services in southern China
and your Government's scheme for assistance to commerciel
aviation (as regards which I have requested further details
in my despatch of 17th December No. 326) suggest that such
demand may in fact be forthcoming.
Before proposal is
submitted to Colonial Development Advisory Committee it
will be necessary to have further information on this.
Please report fully by despatch and supply in fullest posɛible
detail particulars indicated in my circuler despatches
regarding applications for assistance from Colonial
Development Fund.
It is not expected that Air Ministry's drawings and
specifications of hangar will be in hands of Crown Agents
until February. Tenders have therefore not yet been
invited.
